On maintenance
Jan. 22nd, 2023 11:05 amWork is picking up. Both the load and the difficulty seem to have increased. It does not bother me as much as I thought it would. However, I see that it is having an effect on my habits. Tiny cracks are forming in my discipline. The good habits seem to seep out while the bad ones crawl back through the cracks. It is quite the reminder of the insidiousness of bad habits. You are never really free. They just wait for a crack in the dam. It speaks to the immense power of neural connections.
How nice it is to develop new ones. You act in a way of your liking almost automatically. But it is not easy. It is like creating a new path for a river. Even with the help of dams, it is no easy feat. But, like the damming of a river, doing so creates the possibility for growth in your life.
Like the creation of a dam, it also requires a continual checkup and course correction. We need to make sure the dam is kept well maintained, otherwise it can develop cracks and break. I have not been doing this. Maintenance is hard but vital.
