Woohoo! Data science is fascinating! Not that I ever did it seriously, just dabbled - on Coursera back when it was free, then EDX and some other places. What course(s) are you taking? Or learning via textbooks? Which computer language(s)? I hope you'll enjoy it!
I also think that restarting from scratch may feel like you're stuck in a loop, but you ARE a bit better each time, and it's not really a loop but a spiral.
