In an absolutely NOT serious take (but like...a little bit serious, lol), I blame business majors and the way that they (and...everyone else) is being inculcated to view the 'greatest good' of any particular anything to be 1) profit or 2) exposure. I feel like the 'efficiency and capitalizing on the internet' is right. Because money being a factor in how things are sorted.......reveals major fissures in the function of a thing, as money being a goal trends it away from literally anything else being the goal. Money doesn't play nice with any other goal you could name.
